The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox RS gives the redesigned gasoline SUV a darker exterior theme, larger wheels and a more distinctive cabin. Canadian RS models come with all-wheel drive, but the badge does not introduce a separate high-output engine. The useful comparison is with an LT AWD for value and an ACTIV for a different wheel, tire and interior package.

Models available
The Canadian 2025 gasoline lineup has LT, ACTIV and RS. LT offers front-wheel drive or AWD; ACTIV and RS have standard AWD in Canada. The RS uses 19-inch wheels as standard, while ACTIV combines 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and an outdoor-oriented interior theme. Chevrolet Canada’s 2025 model announcement.
A lower starting price for LT FWD is not an apples-to-apples drivetrain comparison with RS. Look at LT AWD first if you want the same driven wheels, then price the comfort equipment you would actually add. ACTIV is worth considering if its tire and interior choices suit you better than the RS appearance.
Engine and transmission
Chevrolet’s Canadian announcement specifies a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine with a GM-estimated 175 hp. AWD configurations use an eight-speed automatic; the CVT belongs to front-wheel-drive versions. RS changes the equipment and appearance rather than bringing a higher advertised horsepower figure. Canadian powertrain information.
That transmission distinction matters when comparing an online listing, a brochure or another model year. Confirm the exact drivetrain before assuming that impressions or specifications for a front-wheel-drive LT also describe this RS AWD.
Towing and load limits
Chevrolet lists up to 1,500 lb of towing for the AWD Equinox, subject to the owner’s manual and equipment requirements. Passengers, cargo and accessories can reduce what is available for trailering. Manufacturer towing statement and limitations.
Check the actual vehicle’s loading label and approved towing setup before buying a trailer. A light utility trailer, hitch-mounted carrier and full family load still need to be considered together; the maximum rating is not a substitute for checking the complete loaded combination.
Fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada’s 2025 data lists Equinox AWD with the 1.5-litre engine and eight-speed automatic at 10.0 L/100 km city, 8.2 highway and 9.2 combined. The FWD/CVT entry is different, at 9.2 city, 8.3 highway and 8.8 combined. Official 2025 fuel-consumption data.
At 20,000 km a year, the AWD combined figure represents approximately 1,840 litres. At an illustrative $1.60 per litre, that is $2,944 annually. Use your own mileage and fuel price to make the calculation relevant; these standardized figures are not measured consumption from this review, and winter or short-trip use can differ.
Interior, seating and cargo
The RS catalog lists heated front seats, a heated flat-bottom steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-way power driver’s seat. A power passenger seat, ventilated front seats and rear outboard seat heating are optional, not features to assume from the RS badge. Canadian RS standard and optional equipment.
Chevrolet quotes up to 1,798 litres of cargo volume with the rear seats folded. That maximum does not describe luggage space with every seating position in use. The split rear seat lets you retain part of the passenger accommodation while carrying longer items. Canadian cargo information.
Infotainment and connectivity
Both the LT and RS catalog listings include an 11.3-inch central display and an 11-inch driver display, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability for compatible phones. The LT therefore already covers the main screen sizes; RS should be chosen for its other equipment rather than simply to obtain a larger infotainment screen. Canadian LT equipment reference.
Safety and driver assistance
The RS catalog includes automatic emergency braking, blind-zone steering assistance and rear cross-traffic braking. HD Surround Vision, rear pedestrian alert and traffic-sign recognition are listed as optional. A rear camera should not be mistaken for the optional surround-view system. RS safety-equipment availability.
Ask for a demonstration of the features installed on the exact vehicle. Driver assistance still depends on driver supervision and operating conditions; consult the owner’s manual rather than treating a feature name as a guarantee that it will prevent every collision.
Pricing in CAD
Current Canadian manufacturer pricing for these exact 2025 configurations has not been verified as of October 31, 2026. Vehicle prices and price differences are therefore omitted; the chart compares equipment, not current purchase costs.
| 2025 Canadian configuration | What changes |
|---|---|
| LT FWD | CVT and front-wheel drive; 17-inch wheels, manual liftgate and manual climate control in the base catalog. |
| LT AWD | Adds AWD and the eight-speed automatic; compare options before assuming RS-level comfort equipment. |
| ACTIV AWD | 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and an Evotex/sueded-microfiber interior theme instead of the RS treatment. |
| RS AWD | 19-inch wheels, RS styling, flat-bottom heated wheel, dual-zone climate and AutoSense power liftgate. |
Compare the exact Canadian drivetrain and equipment before comparing manufacturer prices. LT FWD and LT AWD are different configurations, while ACTIV and RS emphasize different equipment themes; no current price difference is established here.
Competition and choosing a trim
LT AWD is the strongest starting comparison if you want the drivetrain without paying for every RS appearance and convenience feature. RS makes more sense if its power liftgate, climate controls, seating and styling match your priorities. ACTIV offers a different equipment theme rather than a higher horsepower rating.
The Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Ford Escape are other compact-SUV choices to compare. Match the model year, drivetrain and equipment before judging price. If you are considering a hybrid alternative, compare its purchase premium with your own annual driving rather than assuming fuel savings alone settle the decision.
