2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Premium: Specs & Pricing

The 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Premium combines the naturally aspirated V8 of the Dark Horse with a more extensively equipped cabin. It remains a rear-wheel-drive fastback with four seats, rather than a convertible or an all-wheel-drive model. Its specification is defined by the 500-horsepower engine, dedicated cooling equipment, Brembo brakes and standard MagneRide suspension.

This Canadian-market guide focuses on equipment, specifications and ownership considerations. The Automotive Car Reviews walkaround below shows the exterior and interior.

Models available

Ford’s 2026 Canadian Mustang builder includes EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium, GT and GT Premium, Dark Horse, Dark Horse Premium and the separate Dark Horse SC. EcoBoost models use a turbocharged four-cylinder, while GT and the naturally aspirated Dark Horse use different versions of the 5.0-litre V8. Dark Horse Premium should not be confused with the supercharged SC.

The ordinary Dark Horse and Dark Horse Premium are fastbacks. Premium adds its own cabin and equipment specification, while the optional Handling and Appearance packages make further changes. A Dark Horse Premium badge does not automatically mean that either of those packages is installed.

Engine specifications

The engine is a modified, fourth-generation 5.0-litre Coyote V8 with natural aspiration, dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. Ford rates it at 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. The advertised output uses premium fuel and differs from the lower-output GT calibration.

For 2026, the Canadian model page and builder list the 10-speed SelectShift automatic as standard. A TREMEC six-speed manual with rev matching is available. Both send power to the rear wheels. The automatic configuration uses a 3.55 TORSEN limited-slip rear axle; the manual is paired with a 3.73 TORSEN axle.

Dark Horse equipment includes engine-oil, transmission and differential cooling. These are part of the model’s specification, alongside its unique powertrain calibration and intake hardware. They should be considered together when comparing it with a GT rather than treating the difference as horsepower alone.

Suspension, brakes and tires

MagneRide adaptive damping is standard, along with independent rear suspension, heavy-duty front springs and dedicated chassis calibration. Brembo six-piston front brake calipers and larger rotors are also part of the standard Dark Horse equipment. Standard calipers are black with white Brembo branding; the blue treatment belongs to an available appearance configuration.

The standard wheels measure 19 × 9.5 inches at the front and 19 × 10 inches at the rear. Their tires are 255/40R19 front and 275/40R19 rear, described by Ford as summer-only tires. The optional Handling Package uses wider 19 × 10.5-inch front and 19 × 11-inch rear wheels, with 305/30R19 and 315/30R19 tires.

Wheel and tire specification matters for replacement costs and seasonal use. Summer-only tires are not a winter-tire solution. A suitable winter wheel-and-tire package also needs to clear the car’s brakes, so fitment should be checked for the actual Dark Horse configuration.

Fuel economy

Natural Resources Canada’s 2026 guide lists the automatic Dark Horse at 16.5 L/100 km city, 10.9 highway and 13.9 combined. The manual is rated at 17.0 city, 10.8 highway and 14.2 combined. These are Dark Horse ratings; the lower consumption figures published for an ordinary Mustang GT should not be used for this model.

The government table lists regular gasoline as the test fuel category, while Ford’s advertised engine-output figures are based on premium fuel. Buyers should distinguish the published consumption test from the fuel conditions used for the horsepower claim and follow the owner’s manual for their car. Short trips, temperature and operating conditions change actual consumption.

Towing and carrying capacity

Mustang Dark Horse is not rated to tow a trailer in Ford’s towing guidance. A trailer rating given for another Mustang variant should not be applied to it. Its practical carrying capacity is the passenger cabin and luggage compartment, subject to the load allowance printed on the vehicle label.

The fastback has a separate trunk and a 50/50 split-folding rear seat. Folding the rear seat adds flexibility for longer items, although the trunk opening and cabin shape still limit what will fit. The car’s four-seat rating does not mean that rear-seat space is equivalent to a four-door family car.

Interior and comfort

Rear seats in the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Premium

The Dark Horse Premium cabin uses a black cloth-and-vinyl seating treatment with blue accents in Ford’s Canadian builder. It should not be described as an all-leather interior. Standard seats have a six-way power driver’s adjustment with power lumbar support and a four-way power front passenger adjustment. Heated front seats are listed in the Canadian equipment information.

Dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, an auto-dimming frameless mirror and Intelligent Access with push-button start are included. A numbered Dark Horse instrument-panel badge, premium door trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a suede insert distinguish the cabin. The Canadian Premium window sticker also lists a heated steering wheel.

RECARO sport seats are optional. They change the seat design and can change the available power and climate-control functions, so the standard-seat equipment should not be copied automatically into a description of a RECARO-equipped car. The exact seating specification is one of the useful differences to check between otherwise similar listings.

Infotainment system

The digital cockpit combines a 12.4-inch instrument display and a 13.2-inch centre touchscreen. Ford lists the panoramic curved display arrangement for Dark Horse Premium. SYNC 4 provides the main infotainment interface, including compatible Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

A 12-speaker B&O sound system, including a trunk-mounted subwoofer, is included in the Premium builder specification. Smart-charging USB connections, a high-mounted mirror USB port, SiriusXM with 360L and Ford app connectivity round out the technology offering.

Ford lists a one-year Connectivity Package and an optional seven-year purchase. App functions, satellite radio and other connected services depend on activation, vehicle compatibility and the applicable plan. Remote-start availability also depends on the transmission, so it should not be promised for the manual simply because the automatic listing includes it.

Safety and driver assistance

The Canadian Dark Horse Premium builder lists Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ as included. Verified equipment includes adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assistance, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, Pre-Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking and a lane-keeping system.

A rearview camera, rear parking sensors, automatic high beams and rain-sensing wipers are also listed. Airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability systems, tire-pressure monitoring and child-restraint anchors provide the underlying safety equipment. These features do not imply a 360-degree parking camera or permanently included hands-free highway assistance.

Appearance packages

Dark Horse has its own grille, badging, spoiler and exterior detailing. The optional Dark Horse Appearance Package adds blue accents, a black-painted roof, a unique hood graphic and Notorious Blue brake calipers with Grabber Blue branding. These are package features, rather than the standard appearance of every Premium.

Ford offers a range of paint colours, including extra-cost finishes. Wider Handling Package wheels, RECARO seats and appearance equipment should each be identified separately when describing the vehicle shown or comparing dealer listings.

Pricing

Ford’s Canadian builder displayed a Dark Horse Premium starting price of $87,160 CAD. The pricing summary for a Premium example used an $84,665 base MSRP plus $2,495 in fees. A $600 paint choice increased that example’s displayed net price to $87,760 before sales tax.

The same builder listed ordinary Dark Horse from $82,145 and GT Premium Fastback from $61,325. Those figures provide useful context, but the models do not include the same equipment. Optional seats, wheels, handling equipment and appearance packages can increase the total substantially. Sales tax, dealer charges and any applicable luxury tax must be considered in an itemized quote.

Competition

The BMW M2, Nissan Z and Toyota GR Supra are relevant coupe alternatives for buyers comparing size, powertrain layout, transmission choice and cabin equipment. Their engines and seating arrangements differ, so a direct equipment and price comparison is more useful than treating them as equivalent four-seat V8 cars.

Within the Mustang range, GT Premium is the closest lower-cost alternative, while ordinary Dark Horse retains the dedicated engine and chassis specification with a different cabin package. Dark Horse Premium is worth considering when those mechanical features and its added interior equipment are both priorities.
