Models available

The regular sedan lineup consists of LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. LX and Sport use a 150-hp gasoline engine with a conventional continuously variable transmission. Both hybrid trims have the same 200-hp two-motor system; Sport Touring Hybrid adds cabin, display and convenience equipment. The Civic Hatchback is a separate body style with different cargo and fuel-consumption figures.

Engine specifications and hybrid system

A 2.0-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine works with two electric motors. Honda specifies combined output of 200 hp and 232 lb-ft, an electro-continuously variable transmission (eCVT) and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is unavailable in this sedan lineup. The hybrid does not require plugging into a charger.

Sport Touring Hybrid provides ECON, Normal, Sport and Individual selectable modes. Steering-wheel deceleration paddles adjust regenerative deceleration; they are distinct from the transmission paddle shifters fitted to the gasoline Sport. The hybrid has a 40.36-litre fuel tank and uses regular gasoline.

Fuel economy

Honda’s five-cycle estimates for Sport Touring Hybrid are 4.7 L/100 km city, 5.1 highway and 4.9 combined. Sport Hybrid has identical ratings. For comparison, the gasoline LX is rated at 6.6 L/100 km combined and Sport at 6.8. These are sedan figures; hatchback ratings should not be substituted.

At 20,000 km annually, a 4.9 L/100 km rating represents approximately 980 litres of gasoline. Actual consumption depends on weather, trip length, load and other conditions. This calculation helps compare operating costs without presenting the official estimate as a guaranteed result.

Safety and parking assistance

Honda Sensing is standard. Its features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Traffic Jam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. Automatic high beams, Blind Spot Information and Cross Traffic Monitor are also included.

Sport Touring Hybrid adds Low-Speed Braking Control and parking sensors. A multi-angle rearview camera with dynamic guidelines is standard across the sedan range. These parking features should not be confused with a 360-degree camera system.

Passive protection includes front airbags, front knee airbags, front and rear outboard side airbags, and side curtains with a rollover sensor. Honda also includes rear-seat and seat-belt reminders, child-seat anchors, stability control and hill-start assistance. Assistance systems have operating limits and require driver supervision.

Exterior and dimensions

Standard equipment includes 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P235/40R18 tires, LED headlights and taillights, a one-touch power moonroof and rain-sensing wipers. Black mirror housings incorporate LED turn signals. Proximity entry, pushbutton start and Walk-Away Auto Lock are included.

The sedan measures approximately 4,694 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,415 mm high, with a 2,735-mm wheelbase. Honda lists 134 mm of unloaded ground clearance. Hybrid models carry a tire repair kit rather than the temporary spare supplied with gasoline versions.

Interior, seating and cargo

Sport Touring Hybrid seats five and has leather-trimmed upholstery. The driver’s seat offers eight-way power adjustment and the passenger seat four-way power adjustment. Heated front and rear seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard.

Honda lists 419 litres of trunk capacity, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat and an assisted-opening trunk. Front and rear legroom measure 1,074 mm and 950 mm respectively. Passenger volume is 2,735 litres. The sedan’s separate trunk opening is an important practical difference from the hatchback’s larger rear opening.

Infotainment and connectivity

A 9-inch central touchscreen and 10.2-inch driver display are standard on Sport Touring Hybrid. Other regular sedan trims have 7-inch displays. The premium trim also includes a 12-speaker Bose system with a subwoofer, HD Radio, Google built-in and wired or wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Two front USB-C connectors and a Qi-compatible wireless phone charger are included. Wi-Fi hotspot capability and subscription-based HondaLink Connected Services are available. Connected functions may require activation and a data plan after their trial periods; smartphone compatibility and service coverage also matter.

Towing and carrying capacity

The Civic Sport Touring Hybrid is a passenger sedan rather than a towing vehicle. No trailer rating is specified in Honda’s Canadian trim sheet, so this article does not assign one. Check the model-specific owner’s manual before attaching a trailer or hitch-mounted accessory. Passenger and luggage loads must remain within the vehicle’s door-label limits.

Pricing and trim differences

Honda’s Canadian comparison page displayed these selling prices in CAD: LX $31,423; Sport $35,283; Sport Hybrid $37,177; and Sport Touring Hybrid $40,677. Honda’s disclosure includes freight/PDI, the A/C charge, dealer and regulatory fees, other applicable levies and automatically applied rebates where relevant. Sales tax, registration, insurance and licensing are extra; prices can vary by region and dealer.

The $3,500 difference between Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid buys equipment rather than more hybrid output. Notable additions are leather-trimmed seats, power adjustment for both front seats, heated rear seats, the larger central and driver displays, Bose audio, Google built-in, wireless phone integration, Qi charging and additional parking assistance. Buyers who primarily want the hybrid powertrain can compare Sport Hybrid before paying for the extra equipment.

Competition

Toyota Corolla Hybrid and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid are relevant compact-sedan alternatives for shoppers prioritizing fuel consumption. Mazda3 Sedan is another equipment and cabin comparison, particularly for buyers considering a gasoline compact. Compare each vehicle’s Canadian trim, current selling price, cargo arrangement and included technology rather than assuming similarly named trims contain the same features.

Within Honda’s range, Sport Hybrid provides the same output and official economy at a lower listed selling price. The Civic Hatchback offers a different cargo layout and should be considered separately if loading bulky items is a priority. Its specifications and prices differ from the sedan covered here.
