2026 GMC Canyon AT4X: engine and configuration

Engine bay of the 2026 GMC Canyon AT4X

GMC Canada lists a turbocharged 2.7-litre four-cylinder producing 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Canadian Canyon models use four-wheel drive, a Crew Cab and a short cargo bed. The AT4X has a two-speed Autotrac transfer case with 2WD, Auto, 4WD and low-range settings. It is a gasoline truck; there is no Canyon hybrid or electric powertrain in this Canadian lineup.

Models available in Canada

The four trims are Elevation, AT4, Denali and AT4X. Elevation provides the starting point, AT4 adds off-road equipment and heated front seats, and Denali emphasizes cabin materials and convenience. AT4X combines extra chassis hardware with premium interior features. Denali and AT4X share several comfort items, but their suspension and trailering specifications differ.

The AT4 has an automatic rear locking differential. AT4X adds driver-selectable locking differentials at both axles. That distinction matters when comparing equipment lists: an AT4 badge does not mean the truck includes the AT4X front locker or Multimatic dampers.

2026 GMC Canyon AT4X suspension and AEV equipment

Standard AT4X hardware includes a three-inch factory lift, widened track and Multimatic DSSV dampers. GMC also lists an aluminum front skid plate, Hill Descent Control, red front recovery hooks and a drive-mode selector. The model-specific Baja mode is part of its off-road equipment rather than an increase in engine output.

The optional AEV Edition is a separate specification. GMC describes a 4.5-inch lift, 35-inch tires on 17-inch AEV Salta wheels, additional steel underbody protection and AEV bumpers. Its front bumper can accommodate a winch; that description does not establish that a winch comes installed. Its bed-mounted spare-tire arrangement also takes space that would otherwise be available for cargo.

Towing and payload: use the AT4X limit

The Canyon range’s 7,700-lb maximum is not the AT4X rating. GMC’s 2026 Canyon trailering chart lists 6,000 lb (approximately 2,722 kg) for the standard AT4X and 5,500 lb (approximately 2,495 kg) for the AT4X AEV Edition. The chart identifies these configurations separately from the other four-wheel-drive Canyons.

Those figures come from GMC’s published 2026 trailering chart. Confirm the applicable Canadian vehicle documentation and the actual truck’s labels before choosing a trailer. Passengers, luggage, accessories and trailer tongue weight all use payload. A maximum trailer rating does not establish how much payload remains on a loaded example.

The Canadian AT4X equipment list includes an integrated trailer brake controller. Its gain and output appear in the driver information centre. The receiver, hitch, trailer brakes and loaded combination still need to suit the trailer; a controller does not increase the truck’s weight limits.

2026 GMC Canyon AT4X fuel economy

Natural Resources Canada lists the 2026 Canyon AT4X 4WD at 14.1 L/100 km city, 13.8 highway and 14.0 combined, using regular gasoline. The AT4X AEV Edition has its own listing: 14.8 city, 15.1 highway and 14.9 combined. These figures are not interchangeable with the ordinary Canyon 4WD rating of 13.6/10.7/12.3.

For an ownership budget, multiply anticipated kilometres by the combined L/100 km figure and divide by 100 to estimate litres. Winter conditions, idling, cargo and towing can change consumption from these standardized test results.

2026 GMC Canyon AT4X interior and seating

The AT4X seats five people, with front bucket seats and a rear bench. Its Obsidian Rush interior combines dark surfaces with Ceramic White accents and perforated leather seating. The Canadian equipment list includes heated and ventilated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, six-way power passenger seat, driver memory, a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control.

A spray-on bedliner is listed for AT4X. Consider the dimensions of actual camping gear, toolboxes or other loads alongside the short-bed layout. A tonneau cover, storage system or AEV spare carrier can alter usable space. A five-seat cabin also does not guarantee comfortable child-seat installation in every seating position.

Infotainment and camera technology

An 11.3-inch centre touchscreen runs GMC’s infotainment system with Google built-in. It supports compatible wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver receives an 11-inch digital display and a 6.3-inch colour head-up display. A seven-speaker Bose sound system and wireless phone charging are included in the Canadian AT4X equipment list.

The configurator also lists underbody cameras with forward and rearward views and washing capability. Camera images help show areas hidden by the vehicle, but visibility depends on lens cleanliness and the selected view. Check connectivity subscription terms separately: built-in hardware and continued access to connected services are different parts of the purchase.

Safety features on the AT4X

Canyon Pro Safety includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, forward collision warning, a following-distance indicator, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams. The AT4X equipment listing also includes adaptive cruise control, rear parking assistance, rear cross-traffic braking and Blind Zone Steering Assist with trailering.

Rear Pedestrian Alert and the Safety Alert Seat add further warnings. These systems have operating limits and do not make the truck autonomous. Match the order sheet to the equipment fitted rather than assuming every feature shown in a Canyon promotional image is included on every trim.

2026 GMC Canyon AT4X pricing in Canada

GMC Canada’s Ontario configurator displayed C$72,343 “MSRP from” for AT4X. The same page showed Elevation at C$55,343, AT4 at C$59,343 and Denali at C$66,943. These are displayed starting references, not the price of an AT4X with the AEV Edition or a quote for the vehicle in the video.

Ask for an itemized Canadian quote covering the selected packages, paint, freight and dealer charges, applicable levies and sales tax. Employee pricing, finance offers and other incentives should be shown separately from the starting vehicle price.

Competition and buying considerations

Compare the AT4X with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Tacoma’s higher off-road trims. Start with the equipment you need: axle lockers, suspension hardware, bed space, cabin seating and the exact trailer rating. A more specialized trim can carry a different fuel-consumption figure and a lower towing ceiling than another version of the same truck.

Within the Canyon family, AT4 deserves a look if its equipment meets your needs and towing is a priority. Denali is another comparison if leather seating, displays and convenience matter most. AT4X makes the clearest specification-based case when its additional chassis equipment is part of the reason for buying.
